Morbius Pitch Meeting | Screen Rant

The newest installment of Screen Rant’s Pitch Meeting focuses on Sony and Marvel’s Morbius as Ryan George pokes fun at the film’s nonsensical plot.

The newest installation of Screen Rant‘s Pitch Meeting series focuses on Sony and Marvel’s new movie, Morbius, as hilarious host Ryan George makes fun of the film’s nonsensical plot. The superhero flick, which came out last week to mostly negative responses from critics, is the third in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe franchise, following 2018’s Venom and 2021’s Venom: Let There Be Carnage. The next films to come are Kraven the Hunter in January 2023, and Madame Webwhich does not yet have a set release date.

Morbius revolves around the well-known Spider-Man villain, Michael Morbius, a prize-winning doctor with a rare blood disease. In his desperate search for a cure, he gambles splicing his DNA with that of vampire bats, which results in him coming down with a form of vampirism. Directed by Daniel Espinosa and written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, the movie stars Jared Leto as the title character, Adria Arjona as love interest Martine Bancroft, Jared Harris as caretaker Emil Nicholas, and Matt Smith as Morbius’ surrogate brother Milo.

Now that the movie has been out in theaters for a week, Pitch meeting is taking it on. In the skit, George takes viewers through what must’ve happened inside Sony Pictures (not Marvel Studios) to lead to their finished product. Check out the full Pitch Meeting below:

Because plenty of critics and fans have pointed out a lot of Morbius‘s flaws in reviews, writing the script for this Pitch Meeting must’ve been super easy for George. In fact, one might say it must’ve barely been an inconvenience. For example, he touches on how the movie’s trailers showed hints of Spider-Man, only for none of them to actually show up in the film. He points out how Sony used their partnership with Marvel Studios to their marketing advantage, to build up buzz and excitement in moviegoers, just to let them down. This is just one of several of the movie’s major problems that George pokes fun at throughout the pitch meeting.

Since Screen Rant‘s Pitch Meeting series is largely popular on YouTube, there’s a possibility that this newest sketch could be seen by the people at Sony Pictures. They’ve more than likely heard all the negative feedback that Morbius has been getting; the best thing for them to do would be to take it all as constructive criticism. After all, their Marvel movies are based off of beloved characters who have had amazing stories throughout the decades. The source material is out there, so there is plenty of room for them to learn how to make a better film…and hire better writers. Morbius is in theaters now (but probably not for much longer).
