Doctor Strange 2 Wrap Gift May Confirm Another Marvel Character’s MCU Debut

A unique Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness wrap gift seems to suggest another major Marvel sorcerer will make their MCU debut in the film.

Clea Strange

A unique wrap gift from director Sam Raimi seems to imply that at least one more major comic book character will be making their Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

On Instagram, Multiverse of Madness stuntman Mark Aaron Wagner revealed that Raimi had given him a copy of 1981’s Doctor Strange #48. “When the director gives you some of his reference materials as a wrap gift,” Wagner wrote. Notably, the cover of the comic prominently features Clea, the Sorcerer Supreme of the Dark Dimension who has ties to Dormammu. Created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, the character first appeared in 1964’s Strange Tales #126.

While Doctor Strange #48 features MCU mainstays Doctor Strange and Wong, the comic also features a number of characters who have yet to grace the MCU and who are not yet confirmed for Multiverse of Madness. In addition to Clea, the issue features Jericho Drumm/Doctor Voodoo, Daniel Drumm, Sara Wolfe and the first appearance of Morgana Blessing. Notably, a Multiverse of Madness Funko Pop! figure confirms that a character named Sara will indeed factor into the film, though it’s still unclear if that character is Sara Wolfe, Sara Krowler/Baroness Mordo or someone else entirely.

At any rate, the fact that Doctor Strange #48 is being described as one of Raimi’s “reference materials” seems to suggest that the content of the comic will have some sort of bearing on the events of Multiverse of Madness. And while characters like Doctor Voodoo, Sara Wolfe or Morgana Blessing could potentially appear in the film, Clea appears to be the most likely candidate of the bunch.

After all, the Dark Dimension is already well-established in MCU canon. In fact, the first Doctor Strange film from 2016 concludes with Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) traveling to the Dark Dimension and using the Eye of Agamotto (ie the Time Stone) to get the best of Dormammu. With that in mind, it only seems fitting that Clea would factor into the upcoming sequel. Clea certainly wouldn’t be the only Marvel character to make her live-action debut in the film, as Multiverse of Madness also marks the MCU arrival of America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez).

See for yourself if Clea makes her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut when Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness releases in theaters on May 6.
