Bread & Gain co-stars Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Mark Wahlberg are well documented as two of Hollywood’s strongest leading men. The question of who is the strongest has now been broached. As per CinemaBlend, Mark Wahlberg has made a serious claim–that he can do more pull-ups than ‘The Rock.’ Is this the start of a new social media challenge?
Mark Wahlberg made this bold claim on a recent visit to The Ellen DeGeneres Showwhere host Ellen asked the all-important question, who can do more pull-ups, Dwayne Johnson or Mark Wahlberg? The Boogie Nights star was definitive in his answer: “Oh, I could do more pull-ups than The Rock. I dunno, I did 25 here with a pair of Timberland boots for charity. But the max I do is probably like, 40, but clean ones. Clean ones!”
It’s no secret that both Dwayne Johnson and Mark Wahlberg take their workout regimes very seriously, with both stars using their social media platforms to document their grueling routines. So surely the world needs to see Dwayne Johnson’s retaliation to Mark Wahlberg’s remarks? This was a challenge, right? Beyond potentially gooding a fellow actor into a pull-up confrontation, in the video above Ellen pressed Mark Wahlberg to unearth some other tidbits from his past. One such probing question led Wahlberg to reveal he still owns the enhancing prosthetic from his role as emerging pornstar Dirk Diggler in Boogie Nights!
The revealing Boogie Night’s conversation in turn led to Ellen gushing in praise over Mark Wahlberg’s distinguished career, at one point referencing Wahlberg’s previous work as a rapper and how far he has come in his acting career. This is no understatement and something that he has in common with Dwayne Johnson. The Rock is involved with television, movies, owns a tequila company, has a former life as a wrestler, and more. Meanwhile, Mark Wahlberg has carved an enviable acting history, from his critically acclaimed role in Boogie Nights to being Oscar-nominated for his role in The Departed. Wahlberg has also carved a successful comedy career in the likes of Ted and The Other Guys. To complement his abilities to make a star turn in drama and comedy, Wahlberg has also made a name for himself in big action blockbusters, notably appearing in the transformers franchise and the 2022 release Uncharted.
Perhaps, soon, we’ll see him on a pull-up challenge show with Dwayne Johnson, or at least involved in a social media standoff as the topic begins to ignite conversation. Both stars frequently post videos on social media that cover their time at the gym, so it wouldn’t be all too surprising. These days, most of what Wahlberg posts is in support of his upcoming biopic Father Stu, which has the potential to be one of the actor’s most definitive roles to date. In the film, Wahlberg plays an amateur boxer turned priest, the actor is also producing and financing the film due for release in May. Wahlberg has said being true to the real-life character and financing the film makes it a high-pressure role. As well as Father Stu, Wahlberg is set to star in an adaptation of The Six Million Dollar Man, aptly retitled The Six Billion Dollar Man.
Mark Wahlberg’s upcoming slate of projects is a busy one, reminiscent of a man in his fifties with enough energy to out muscle Dwayne Johnson with 40 “clean” pull-ups. However, fans may expect to see the rate of Wahlberg’s output slow down in the coming years. The actor has recently expressed concerns over how his busy career takes him away from family life and has stated he may cherry-pick only the most special projects in the future. Here’s hoping one of those special projects is a live-televised pull-up contest with The Rock.
